Remark on the perturbative component of inclusive -decay
In the context of the inclusive -decay, we analyze various forms of
perturbative expansions which have appeared as modifications of the original
perturbative series. We argue that analytic perturbation theory, which combines
renormalization-group invariance and -analyticity, has significant merits

Dynamics of Simple Balancing Models with State Dependent Switching Control
Time-delayed control in a balancing problem may be a nonsmooth function for a
variety of reasons. In this paper we study a simple model of the control of an
inverted pendulum by either a connected movable cart or an applied torque for
which the control is turned off when the pendulum is located within certain
regions of phase space. Without applying a small angle approximation for
deviations about the vertical position, we see structurally stable periodic
orbits which may be attracting or repelling. Due to the nonsmooth nature of the
control, these periodic orbits are born in various discontinuity-induced
bifurcations. Also we show that a coincidence of switching events can produce
complicated periodic and aperiodic solutions.Comment: 36 pages, 12 figure
Resummation of the hadronic tau decay width with the modified Borel transform method
A modified Borel transform of the Adler function is used to resum the
hadronic tau decay width ratio. In contrast to the ordinary Borel transform,
the integrand of the Borel integral is renormalization--scale invariant. We use
an ansatz which explicitly accounts for the structure of the leading infrared
renormalon. Further, we use judiciously chosen conformal transformations for
the Borel variable, in order to map sufficiently away from the origin the other
ultraviolet and infrared renormalon singularities. In addition, we apply Pade
approximants for the corresponding truncated perturbation series of the
modified Borel transform, in order to further accelerate the convergence.
Comparing the results with the presently available experimental data on the tau
hadronic decay width ratio, we obtain . These predictions
virtually agree with those of our previous resummations where we used ordinary

Thermodynamic behavior of IIA string theory on a pp-wave
We obtain the thermal one loop free energy and the Hagedorn temperature of
IIA superstring theory on the pp-wave geometry which comes from the circle
compactification of the maximally supersymmetric eleven dimensional one. We use
both operator and path integral methods and find the complete agreement between
them in the free energy expression. In particular, the free energy in the limit is shown to be identical with that of IIB string theory on
maximally supersymmetric pp-wave, which indicates the universal thermal
behavior of strings in the large class of pp-wave backgrounds. We show that the
zero point energy and the modular properties of the free energy are naturally

On the Behavior of the Effective QCD Coupling alpha_tau(s) at Low Scales
The hadronic decays of the tau lepton can be used to determine the effective
charge alpha_tau(m^2_tau') for a hypothetical tau-lepton with mass in the range
0 < m_tau' < m_tau. This definition provides a fundamental definition of the
QCD coupling at low mass scales. We study the behavior of alpha_tau at low mass
scales directly from first principles and without any renormalization-scheme
dependence by looking at the experimental data from the OPAL Collaboration. The
results are consistent with the freezing of the physical coupling at mass
scales s = m^2_tau' of order 1 GeV^2 with a magnitude alpha_tau ~ 0.9 +/- 0.1.Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures, submitted to Physical Review D, added

S to P wave form factors in semi-leptonic B decays
We apply HQET to semi-leptonic and meson decays into the observed
charmed wave states. In order to examine the sensitivity of the results to
the choice of a specific model, we perform all calculations using several
different meson models, and find that uncertainty introduced by the choice of a
particular model is about 30\%. Specifically, assuming and
, we obtain branching ratios of and for B\rar D_{1}l\bar{\nu}_{l} and B\rar D_{2}^{*}l\bar{\nu}_{l}

The Sudbury Neutrino Observatory
The Sudbury Neutrino Observatory is a second generation water Cherenkov
detector designed to determine whether the currently observed solar neutrino
deficit is a result of neutrino oscillations. The detector is unique in its use
of D2O as a detection medium, permitting it to make a solar model-independent
test of the neutrino oscillation hypothesis by comparison of the charged- and
neutral-current interaction rates. In this paper the physical properties,
construction, and preliminary operation of the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory are
described. Data and predicted operating parameters are provided whenever
